The entrance to Chester Cathedral is on St Werburgh Street. St Werburgh is the patron saint of Chester Cathedral. The Cathedral stands on the site of a Saxon Church dedicated to St Werburgh. The Benedictine Abey and a new church were built in 1092 in the Norman style, but this was rebuilt from about 1250 in the Gothic style.
